Trainwreck Strain Info

Trainwreck is a West Coast favorite and combines both Sativa and Indica genetics. It’s a versatile strain for both consumers and breeders, meaning it can be grown easily and its effects can vary a lot depending on how much is consumed.

Genetics

Trainwreck is a Sativa dominant (60%) hybrid originating from Arcata, Humboldt Bay in California. Its family tree is supposedly a mix of Mexican and Thai Sativas and an Afghani Indica.

Flowering Time

Trainwreck finishes flowering time in 8-9 weeks indoors or by early October outdoors. That’s about average for cannabis plants, so definitely nothing to complain about if you’re a grower!

Yields

Harvests for Trainwreck are also on the medium-large side. Expect yields of 400-600g/m2 (1.31-1.97 oz/ft2) indoors or 1000-2000g (35.2-70.5 oz) per plant outdoors – certainly enough to make most breeders and consumers happy!

Effects

Your experience with Trainwreck will depend a lot on how much you consume, as its effects are creative, happy, euphoric, relaxing, and uplifting at more moderate doses, but sleepy and couch-lock-inducing at higher doses. That makes it a great strain to use throughout the day and night.

THC And CBD Levels

The THC content level for Trainwreck is very wide-ranging, usually testing at 13-15% THC and <1% CBD. Some phenotypes, however, test at +20% THC.

Smell And Taste

This is a delicious and aromatic feminized cannabis strain with an enticing terpene profile. Its flavors are sweet and sour with earthy, spicy, and lemony undertones, while its aromas are fresh, citrusy, piney, and mossy.

Grow Tips

Trainwreck grows vigorously and can easily reach a height of 200cm (6’7) outdoors, although it usually stays below 150cm (4’11) indoors. Long and strong branches with thin Sativa-like leaves will become filled with big and dense, resinous buds. Some other grow info tips to keep in mind:

  • It prefers slightly warmer and sunnier climates outdoors but does well in all setups.
  • The strain reacts well to all types of training and has good resistance against pests and disease.
  • It can take a lot of water and nutrients, and can easily double or even triple its height during stretch.

    • Advantages
3/5 germinated, grown in 50-gallon smart pots outdoors organically. The 3 phenotypes were different: Pheno 1: short indica dominant, super gassy terpinen terpenes and hints of lemon-orange, dense yields. Pheno 2: sativa dominant, large buds but much denser production and fewer trichomes with very earthy pine terpenes and some lemon hints. Pheno 3: between the first two phenotypes in terms of structure but more lemon terpenes with earthy hints, smaller yield than the other two.
    • Disadvantages
Pest resistance wasn't the best; it required a lot of predators to balance the aphid and mite problems, but it succeeded. Caterpillar pressure was high. No mold except for a few buds that I tried to dry using the box method.
    • General impressions

Find the short-lived turpentine gaseous phenomenon that others might disappoint.
