Y Griega fem Grow Diary and Strain Review

This run with Y Griega fem from Medical Seeds ended up being my biggest harvest from one plant so far. I didn’t start it as a proper photo diary, so the first couple of weeks are more from memory, but the grow itself was too good not to write down.
I already knew this strain a little. I had ordered three seeds a while ago, grew one right away, and kept the other two in the fridge. The first plant did well, but I had other genetics to try, so this second Y Griega had to wait its turn.

Starting the Run
Germination and Setup
I germinated the seed between wet towels and moved it straight into a 20l (5.3gal) fabric pot. For the medium, I used a mix of soil, coco fiber, perlite, and one extra component I prefer to keep to myself.
For the first 2 weeks, I didn’t feed anything at all. The plant only got water adjusted to pH 6.5, and that was enough. By the third week, it stood around 10cm (3.9in), with large leaves already forming and a surprisingly branchy structure for such a young plant.
Grow Room Conditions
The plant grew in a dedicated room where I tried to keep the climate steady. Daytime temperature sat around 22°C (71.6°F), while nights dropped to about 18°C (64.4°F). Humidity usually stayed in the 50-60% range.
The LEDs were running on 18/6, with about 60cm (23.6in) between the lamp and the top of the plant. There were no hunger signs at this stage, which made the slow start feel pretty relaxed.
Veg Progress and Training
Early Feeding
In the fourth week, I started feeding with my own organic mix. I’ve used this homemade compost-style feed before, and it usually does the job without making the plant look pushed too hard.
Y Griega answered quickly. In about a week, it doubled in size and looked fully comfortable in the room. That was the point where I felt it was ready for proper shaping.
Topping and LST
The fifth week was the first busy one. The plant had grown enough to handle training, so I topped it and fixed the side branches in a horizontal position with wire pins. I also removed a few leaves that were getting in the way.
The reaction was easy. No sulking, no obvious pause. Watering was up to about 1l (33.8fl oz) by then, and I kept doing it every other day so the substrate could dry a little between rounds.
Over the next week, all 8 side branches stretched out well and started gaining mass. The main stem became thick and hard enough to take the training without looking fragile.
Canopy Work
During the next 2 weeks, the plant added about 10cm (3.9in). I kept removing lower fan leaves little by little until the bottom was clean.
A ScrOG net wasn’t practical in my room, but the canopy still needed spreading. The foliage was too lush to leave alone, and I didn’t want the future buds sitting in shade with poor airflow. Instead of a net, I planned to use thick wire spacers between opposite branches to push the colas apart.
The Flip and Early Flower
Moving Into Bloom
By the time flowering started, the plant had a strong frame and plenty of branch sites. The earlier training paid off here because the bush didn’t turn into one tight green lump.
Feeding stayed regular, and the plant kept putting most of its energy into building flower sites. There weren’t any dramatic problems at this stage, just the usual work of keeping the branches open and watching the canopy.
Bud Building
As flowering moved on, the buds started taking over the plant. The grower’s focus shifted from shaping to supporting the weight that was clearly coming.
In week 12, Big Bud was added at 2ml/l. After that, the flowers kept gaining size, though they still needed more time to become properly dense.
Late Flower and Finish
Ripening
By the end of week 14, the buds already looked huge, but they weren’t as tight as I wanted yet. From the look of the plant, it still had another 4-5 weeks of flowering ahead.
The hairs slowly darkened, and part of the trichomes started turning milky. I waited for a better balance between clear, cloudy, and amber heads rather than cutting too early.
Support and Mold Risk
The flowers kept getting thicker, and by week 15, I had to add extra supports so the branches wouldn’t snap under the weight. That was a good problem to have, but it still meant the room needed more attention.
I kept feeding until week 15. Around that time, the buds became so dense that mold started to worry me. With the humidity level in the room, it felt like a real risk rather than just grower paranoia.
Flush and Harvest
After that, I gave the plant a 5-day flush and moved on to harvest. I cut away the extra leaves, removed the central cola, and sent the whole plant to the drying room.
Drying was simple. I hung the plant upside down and left it there for a week before trimming and weighing the final result.
Y Griega fem Yield and Final Thoughts
Harvest and Final Thoughts
I could already tell from the look of the plant that the harvest would be strong, but the final weight still surprised me. After drying and trimming, I got 250g (8.8oz) from one plant. For me, that was a record.
The smoke matched what I remembered from the first Y Griega run. It was thick, fruity, and citrus-heavy, with that bright sativa character I was hoping for.
The effect was pure energetic high for me. It lifted hard and stayed there for around 2-3h, the kind of effect I’d rather use before something active than before sitting still. Parties, cycling, or a workout all made more sense than a lazy evening on the couch.
I came out of this run with even more respect for Y Griega fem. It handled training well, didn’t ask for much drama, and paid back the attention with a harvest I won’t forget. I’d give it a confident 10 out of 10.
