Tangerine Dream (Barney's Farm)
Description
Tangerine Dream Strain Information
Tangerine Dream has a long and storied history. Its origins lie with Dutch breeder Barney’s Farm, who cultivated it sometime in the 1990s or 2000s. Tangerine Dream is a Cannabis Cup winner, boasting a victory in the 2010 contest.
Genetics
This strain is slightly Sativa-dominant, just tipping the scales at 60%. Its family tree has many roots, including G13, Afghan, and Neville’s A5 Haze. G13 is a potent Indica that, according to urban legend, was stolen from the U.S. government. One of the most prevalent landraces in the world, Afghan has provided its genetics to countless plants. Meanwhile, Neville’s A5 Haze is a tall, nearly pure Haze phenotype with a powerful buzz.
Flowering Time
The flowering time for Tangerine Dream is fairly short. Indoors, it’s fully mature after just 60-65 days of 12/12. Outdoor growers should harvest their crops in early October, before the first frost of the year.
Yields
Tangerine Dream is an above-average yielder. Indoor growers can expect to pull down about 600g/m2 (17.6oz/ft2) regardless of whether they’re growing in soil or hydroponics. Outdoors, cultivators can expect 600g (1.3lb) for every plant they grow. Perfectly-grown specimens will yield sticky, resinous flowers coated in trichomes.
Effects
As a slightly Sativa-dominant hybrid, Tangerine Dream runs the gamut of effects. It leads with a rush of uplifting happiness, a rain of stoned sunshine on a cloudy day. It banishes stress, induces relaxation, and is perfect for daytime smoke sessions.
THC And CBD Levels
Tangerine Dream has a THC rating that can peak around 23%. While that already seems like a high level, this strain derives even more strength from trace amounts of other terpenes and cannabinoids via the Entourage Effect.
Smell And Taste
A bold, tangy taste of citrus is the most forward flavor that Tangerine Dream presents. Its terpene profile rounds out that potent zing with the sweeter taste of ripe berries and a hint of orange zest. Tangerine Dream derives its flavor from three primary terpenes: limonene, myrcene, and caryophyllene.
Growing Tips
Tangerine Dream’s height can reach up to 100cm (nearly 40 inches) indoors, so make sure you have plenty of vertical space for the plant to stretch. It can nearly double that outdoors in large pots, reaching 150cm (59 inches).
- For best results, use training techniques like LST, topping, main-lining, and defoliation.
- If growing inside, increase the LED wattage from 400 to 600 when switching into flower.
- Very large pot sizes of 20L (5.2gal) and up will allow for efficient root growth.
Tangerine Dream Seeds
These feminized seeds will always sprout into female plants, eliminating the need to patrol your garden for males. Regular seeds can sprout male plants, which can ruin a garden. However, they’re photoperiodic, not autoflowering, which means you’ll need to manually switch your light schedule to induce flowering.
