Grandaddy Purple Strain Info

One of the most beautifully colored, flavorful, and potent Indica-dominant strains on the market, Grandaddy Purple (GDP) has a history of winning a number of awards since hitting the mainstream in 2003. With origins in California, this strain is a result of crossing Purple Urkle and Big Bud, and is a great medical strain for killing pain, easing nausea, inducing sleep, and calming moderate to severe anxiety.

Genetics

This West Coast favorite was bred by crossing Purple Urkle and Big Bud, two legendary phenotypes in their own right. That genetic lineage has imparted Grandaddy Purple with sky-high potency and delicious flavors.

Flowering Time

Grandaddy Purple has a flowering time of 60-65 days if you’re growing her indoors. For outdoor operations, expect her to flower in October.

Yields

The Grandaddy Purple feminized cannabis strain does what most Indica-dominant hybrids are incapable of doing – generating bucket-loads of flowers. This purple-hued beauty is able to produce harvests upward of 450-500g/m2 (1.47-1.64oz/ft2) of dense and resin-covered flowers indoors, and up to 500g (17.6oz) per plant outdoors.

However, after a single puff, her potent effects will hit hard, and you’ll find all your aches, pains, and negative thoughts evaporate into oblivion.

THC And CBD Levels

Grandaddy Purple is one of the most potent strains on the market, with a THC content level that often exceeds 25%. It also has about 0.3% CBD in order to boost its considerable medicinal properties.

Smell And Taste

While you might think that her extreme potency is Grandaddy Purple’s biggest selling point, don’t forget about her captivating terpene profile. With flavors of wine grapes and wild berries, she’s a sophisticated lady with a bit of a sweet tooth.

Grow Tips

Due to her Indica-leaning lineage, Grandaddy Purple feminized cannabis seeds will grow short, bushy, and contain dense internode spacing. This makes her perfect for growers that are limited on space. Here’s some other grow info that will help you along the way:

  • Her ease of growth is through the roof, making her ideal for beginners.
  • Due to her bud density, it’s essential that you keep the relative humidity below 60%. Indoor temperatures should not exceed 32℃.
  • She’ll grow equally well indoors or outdoors.

    • Advantages
      • Very dense and short • Crazy amount of branching • Nice end of day smoke to help unwind • Dense golf ball sized buds • Easy to feed cultivar • Covered in trichomes • 49g per square foot
    • Disadvantages
      • None
    • General impressions

She grows very dense throughout vegetation, then branches out like crazy once in flower. Got some light purple at the end of her life, but then it went back to dark green after drying. Grows some very nice frosted golf ball nugs with a strong indica effect that will put you to sleep if you smoke too hard! I did get some slight foxtailing from using seaweed extract too late in flowering, nothing I hated though. I harvested after 59 days of flowering and found it to be optimal from a tricome perspective. The buds had fringes of purple on the bracts and sugar leaves with small bumps of foxtailing. She was very easy and bushy to grow and never showed many deficiencies throughout her growth. Had darker leaves towards the end of flower, so it wasn't very nitrogen hungry and went into full flower.

This plant was a MONSTER. Buds are huge and sticky. She started off a little underwhelming but really stacked up in the final weeks. Can’t wait to see how she smokes.

    • Advantages
      A heavy-yielding bomb
      Easy to grow
    • Disadvantages
Sensitive to mold because of its bulky structure if there is insufficient airflow around the buds
    • General impressions

One of the classic Indicas. Also one of my favorites. It's easy to grow and yields largely with lots of trichomes. I. It has a unique smell of wine grapes and berries which I love about it most. It's effects really come up between the 2nd and 3rd week of the curing, just as most of the other strains.
Certainly recommended to everyone who are looking for a heavy punch of tasty indica :) It is also a great strain for making concentrates such as dry sift and BHO.

    • Disadvantages
I didnt buy them here but considering all the reviews are 5 star i want to provide my experience with these seeds. The presentation is nice but 3 of the 5 seeds were premature. Ive smoke GDP that was so bomb you house would stink off a quarter but this plant isnt it. I have also seem huge consistencies in the THC of 35% where some sites have the same brand showing up to 22% only.
    • General impressions

Of my 4x8 the GDP is always the weakest looking plant of them all. Seedsman Blueberry is great along with Humboldt's Choc og.

Blimburn's Granddaddy Purple is truly a very good smoke!.. & is now a favorite of mine. The aromas of grapes, berries and cream wafting from this sweet beauty can really make your mouth water. Rock hard, dense flower production makes these sugary sweet buds a prime treat for anyone.
GDP's intense high lasted about two and a half to three hours without any hard come down.
This strain is worth growing. GDP responded well after topping and didn't seemed to mind the LST and defoliation sessions.
    • Disadvantages
      Can cause dry mouth
    • General impressions

Wanted to wait until the buds were fully cured before puffing on this lady. Wich is hard in itself. Lol. Patience can be apart of the building excitement anyway. That and who'd want to smoke quality herb when it's not quite done yet.
This beautiful girl created dense buds with an excellent aroma that leads you up to her intense array of flavors. Including and not limited to berries, grapes or a fine wine on your inhale and a faint creamy honey left on your pallet on the exhale. An extremely tasty and quality smooth smoke. Not just saying this.
The initial puff is very enjoyable. With uplifting, giggly or get up and go type feelings it's nice for daytime use. But be careful, when her uplifting effects start wearing off a couple hours later you'll want to take a seat and relax for a while. No matter what happens to be going on that moment, you'll be looking to chillax' for a good while. Until your next few puffs of course.
She grows nice and vigorous during the vegetative cycle. But beware of her stretch after the switch to 12/12, she can about double in height. Keeping good nutes available for GDP to munch on throughout her life cycle is crucial for a successful harvest. Happy tree, happy me!

    • Advantages
      Relaxing body buzz
    • Disadvantages
The buds didn't get as big as expected but were quite dense, due to the stretch, and seemed to be a sativa dominant pheno.
    • General impressions

The effect upon consumption is a very nice relaxing body buzz and works great for insomnia. GDP's typical grape flavor really starts to emerge as it ages, but the buds also give off a lovely caramel aroma.
