Bubblegum
Description
Bubblegum Strain Info
This strain has a history spanning several decades. It probably originated in Indiana, Canada and was then brought to the Netherlands with its bustling weed-smoking scene. People loved Bubblegum’s signature taste, and so did the High Times Cannabis Cup judges, who gave it three awards in the ‘90s.
Genetics
This feminized version of the famed genetic is a balanced Sativa/Indica hybrid created by crossing the original Bubblegum and a hybrid whose lineage is kept secret. The OG Bubblegum was a mostly Indica strain that likely originated in Indiana in the ‘70s.
Flowering Time
Bubblegum is especially popular among indoor growers who can enjoy her relatively short flowering time of only 56-63 days. Outdoors, you should be more careful, as not every climate will ensure summers long enough for the buds to fully mature.
Yields
Indoors, Bubblegum brings in yields that are above average by any metrics – up to 1.3-1.6 oz/ft² (400-500 g/m²). If you grow this herb outdoors, you can harvest between 1-1.4 lb (450-650 grams) from each plant.
Effects
Depending on the pheno, Bubblegum produces a high that can be body-numbing and pain-relieving or, vice versa, make you alert and focused, with a strong creative vibe. Either way, the most noticeable effect will be buzzy euphoria.
Medical Properties
Bubblegum is very effective against depression thanks to its ability to lift your mood. Sativa-leaning phenos will take care of fatigue associated with various conditions, including MS, while those that have more Indica in them work great as painkillers.
THC and CBD Levels
Though bred primarily for aroma and taste, Bubblegum has a comfortably high potency ensured by a THC content of 17-19% – just enough to knock out an amateur and put a smile on a pro’s face. Meanwhile, the CBD levels are close to zero.
Smell and Taste
If you want to get the characteristic smell and taste of strawberry chewing gum from your childhood memories, you’ll need to buy many seeds and do some pheno hunting. However, every plant has a sweet and berry-like or fruity flavor even if it isn’t exactly like bubblegum.
Grow Tips
Bubblegum is a very old variety perfected over many decades, but even so, she displays two distinct phenotypes. One tends to form a towering central cola with moderately-sized side branches. The other is more branchy and squat and flowers for longer but brings in more generous yields. Top and heavily train the first one or plant it in a Sea of Green (don’t overextend the veg when doing it!). The second one performs best with ScrOG and LST.
- Expect a height of 4+ feet (120-140 cm) indoors but taller plants outdoors.
- Grow the plants in the sunniest spot in the garden or install powerful lights indoors.
- Use LEDs rather than HPS for better trichome production.
