Durban Poison Strain Info

This variety is a pure Sativa strain that both originates and takes its name from Durban, a city in South Africa. Durban Poison first arrived in the U.S. sometime in the ‘70s and has won multiple industry awards ever since. This variety is a Sativa in every way – it grows tall with large stretches and produces sticky buds infused with sweet flavors and pleasant uplifting effects.

Flowering Time

Durban Poison has an extremely short indoor flowering period for a landrace Sativa that lasts just 56-63 days. Outdoor-grown plants can take a while to reach full maturity and will be ready to harvest in October.

Yields

With these Durban Poison feminized seeds, you’re in for impressive yields of trichome-covered buds that typically reach 400-450 g/m² (1.3-1.4 oz/ft²) indoors and 1.2-1.3 lb (550-600 g) per plant outdoors.

Effects

One of the reasons why Durban Poison has gained such a mass following is its classic Sativa effects that deliver a mood-lifting rush of cerebral euphoria. It’s a perfect strain to start your day with, as it provides an energy boost along with focus and clarity.

Medical Properties

With its uplifting properties, Durban Poison is an effective antidote to depression and anxiety, while some users also report that it helps them treat chronic pain and nausea.

THC and CBD Levels

With a THC content of 16% on average, Durban Poison isn’t the strongest strain in our catalog. This means that it suits newbie stoners, but also experienced stoners who’d like to avoid any side effects.

Smell and Taste

When you light one up, the smoke will fill the room with earthy and piney aromas, while you’ll get a sweet taste with notes of citrus and peppermint in the background.

Grow Tips

Durban Poison is relatively easy to grow, but it still requires care and maintenance to produce the best results. Unlike most Sativas, this variety is resistant to colder climates. Depending on the conditions and environment, it can reach up to 8′2″ (250 cm). The buds are medium to large in size and heavily covered in resin, making it a great option with which to craft various extracts.

  • Keep humidity levels at 40-50% and temperatures at 69-78oC (21-26oC) when growing indoors.
  • Use the ScrOG method to increase flower production on the lower plants of the plant.
  • The plants give off a strong aroma toward the end of bloom – make sure you have a good-quality carbon filter installed in your grow room.
