Original Auto Jack Herer Grow Diary and Strain Review

Last updated: 9 June 2026

Grow diary hero

This run was my first time growing Original Jack Herer Auto from Fast Buds. I already knew the breeder well, but I don’t like repeating the same genetics too often, so this auto version of Jack Herer felt like a good next test.

I’m not the kind of grower who keeps cutting, tying, and reshaping a plant every few days. My plan here was simple: give the plant decent conditions, let it grow naturally, and see how much it could do without training.

Starting the Run

Week 1

I started the seed straight in a 20l (5.3gal) pot and kept the light schedule at 20/4. The room stayed around 27°C (80.6°F), which felt comfortable enough for a young auto.

The first days were calm. The seedling came up fine and started building its early leaves without needing much from me. I kept the setup basic and tried not to interfere more than necessary.

Week 2

Things got messy in the second week. There were 4 plants in the box, all at different ages, and I noticed a few whiteflies on one of the older bushes.

I don’t like using harsh chemistry, so I treated the plants with neem oil mixed with water and a little liquid soap. I did 2 treatments with a 2-day break between them, but some drops landed on the young Original Jack Herer leaves.

The next day, the seedling looked rough. The leaves had dry brown spots and curled badly. I honestly thought I might have ruined it, but the plant pushed through and later made a healthy third pair of leaves.

Week 3

After that scare, week 3 felt like a relief. The plant recovered enough that I could stop worrying about losing it.

The stress slowed it down, though. It gained only 3cm (1.2in) that week, which wasn’t much, but the new growth looked healthy. Above the soil, there were already several small shoots and enough leaves to show it was back in motion.

Veg Progress and Training

Week 4

Week 4 was the proper rebound. After the slow stretch, Original Jack Herer doubled in height and reached 22cm (8.7in).

Even without training, the structure looked nice and branchy. There were plenty of secondary colas starting to form, and the plant finally looked like it had forgiven my early mistake.

Water demand went up too. Before this, it needed about 1l (0.3gal) per day, but now I was giving 1.5l (0.4gal), and the top of the soil was dry again by the next day.

Week 5

By week 5, the plant had moved into preflower and reached about 40cm (15.7in). It still wasn’t trained, but the natural shape stayed surprisingly full.

I liked how it was building itself. The bush had enough side growth to make me feel that skipping training wasn’t a mistake this time.

Week 6

During week 6, the plant kept stretching and started looking much more like a flowering auto. The structure stayed dense, which was a little unexpected for a plant with this much sativa influence in the background.

I still didn’t top it or bend it. After the early leaf burn, I preferred to keep my hands off and let the plant work through the cycle on its own.

Early Flower

Week 7

Flowering was already well underway, but Original Jack Herer kept stretching slowly. It added another 10cm (3.9in) this week and reached 77cm (30.3in).

For an auto with sativa genetics, it was still very bushy. The structure reminded me of an Auto Purple Kush I had grown a few months earlier, and that comparison made me a bit more confident about the result.

The buds were not finished yet, of course, but I could already see the chance for a few dense tops if the plant kept moving in the same direction.

Week 8

In week 8, the stretch finally stopped. The plant shifted its effort into flower, and trichomes started showing properly across the buds.

I wasn’t sure it would finish exactly within the breeder’s timeline, but the harvest was getting closer. One thing surprised me: the smell was almost absent. Compared with other plants in the room, Original Jack Herer was very quiet. I could only catch a light aroma if I put my nose right into the bush.

Week 9

By week 9, it was obvious the plant had fully focused on bud production. The flowers were gaining shape, and the leafy middle of the plant no longer felt like the main story.

I kept the same general approach and avoided extra stress. At this point, I just wanted the buds to finish cleanly after the rough start this plant had already survived.

Late Flower and Finish

Week 10

The final stretch was all about watching the buds ripen. Resin was visible, the flowers looked properly formed, and the plant had done much better than I expected after the neem burn in early veg.

I still didn’t use expensive nutrients or complicated training. That was the whole point of this grow for me. I wanted to see what the plant could do when left mostly to its own shape.

Original Jack Herer Auto Yield and Final Thoughts

The final result was 111.3g (3.9oz) of finished product from one plant. For a single auto grown without training, I see that as a very solid outcome.

The early mistake with the neem treatment could have gone worse, but Original Jack Herer handled it and kept growing. That made the result feel even better. I also liked that the plant stayed easy to manage once it recovered.

The smoke came out thick and sweet, with citrus and earthy notes in the background. The effect was balanced and soft. It didn’t push me into heavy relaxation, but gave a light body feel with a clearer, more positive mood.

For me, Original Jack Herer Auto turned out to be a strong and low-maintenance plant. It gave a good yield, stayed fairly forgiving, and finished with an effect I’d happily come back to.
