I’ve always been more of a whiskey and cigars kind of guy, but cannabis was recently legalized in my state for recreational use. I’ve been into trying new things lately; I write for a living, and it makes for new material. I’ve learned how to do a handstand, tried my hand at baking bread, and am working on my Spanish. But at 42, I’ve never smoked marijuana before. It simply never interested me until recently. So, I decided to write a trip report about my first time smoking weed.

It’s not the first weed smoke report I’ve written, but this one definitely stands out from the rest – first of all, because it’s a microdosing weed trip report, something I’ve never done before, and honestly, never seen before either! Instead of describing a couple of hours under the influence of weed, I’ll be covering a much broader timeline. The second reason why this weed trip report is so special is that it’s had the most impact on my life. Now that I’ve caught your attention, let’s begin!

It’s Saturday, early afternoon, and perfect weather for getting stoned. My best friend Amanda is coming over to introduce her new boyfriend, David, and I figured a fun way to get to know each other would be to indulge in a weed brownie or two. I grow my own pot and like to compare the effects of different strains.

In typical Los Angeles fashion, it’s the end of January but has been a toasty 80 degrees all day. As a prep cook in a trendy West Hollywood restaurant, I don’t get a break from the heat between fryers sputtering with oil, dishes coming in and out of the kitchen, and constant chopping and slicing. I’m still in a good mood this day though, since my shift manager is cool enough to let me get out of work early on a Friday. For good reason, too – I’ve got plans to go see Empire of the Sun play a concert tonight.
