Strawberry Cough Strain Info

Strawberry Cough is a Sativa-dominant hybrid that nonetheless retains some Indica characteristics, especially in its growth structure. It’s a great choice for socializing or for staying energized, and it has a proud history with origins linked to one of cannabis’ most famous personalities. The plants are visually appealing and have some unique features, such as attractive purple tones in the buds. Even after many years since their introduction, Strawberry Cough feminized seeds continue to be highly favored among experienced growers and smokers.

Genetics

The original Strawberry Cough is a product of long-time cannabis breeder, pioneer, and former High Times editor Kyle Kushman. Its origin is not entirely clear, but we know the strain includes both European and North American lineage. This variety was produced by crossing Strawberry Fields with a Haze strain. Strawberry Cough buds boast a unique fruity scent and sweet taste inherited from its mysterious Indica parent. Available today as a clone-only strain, it made its way to Dutch Passion, who recreated it in feminized seed form.

Flowering Time

The flowering period for Strawberry Cough spans about 9 to 10 weeks, and you might observe that your Strawberry Cough appears somewhat untidy a couple of weeks before you initiate the flowering process. Despite the fact that this plant grows densely and with many branches (it's recommended to trim it regularly in order to eliminate excessive foliage), you should refrain from pruning your plants within a few days of inducing flowering, ceasing pruning approximately 2 to 3 weeks into the flowering stage. We also advise growers to divide their pruning activities into multiple sessions, as undertaking all the pruning at once may cause the plant to experience shock and stress.

Yields

Strawberry Cough produces medium to large yield when grown indoors. Typically, most growers see a harvest of between 300 and 400 grams per square meter (0.98–1.31 oz/ft²). If you grow outdoors in a warm climate, you’ll get even more.

Effects

This strain’s effect is typical of a Sativa with its strong cerebral high – energetic, motivating, euphoric, talkative, and creative. It's highly potent and has strong effects on the mind, promoting clarity and sociability. The strain is particularly beneficial for engaging in tasks that require creativity or problem-solving skills. The uplifting effects of Strawberry Cough can be experienced for several hours, making it a great choice for a daytime pick-me-up or an enjoyable evening spent with loved ones. The smoke is harsh, often giving even the most experienced consumers watery eyes accompanied by a cough, but it’s also accompanied by a great high that lasts a long time.

THC Level

THC content for Strawberry Cough ranges from 15 to 22%, which is a high enough percentage that you’ll definitely feel the strong effects, but not so high of a level as to completely couch-lock you.

Medical Properties

Medical marijuana users report that Dutch Passion Strawberry Cough helps greatly with lowering anxiety levels, as well as dealing with stress and depression. The potential benefits of the strain's sociable effects may be valuable in the management of anxiety, particularly for individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD). Strawberry Cough's mood-enhancing properties may also assist in relieving symptoms of depression, as THC and CBD possess anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) and anti-depressant effects when employed correctly.

Smell and Taste

Just as its name suggests, Strawberry Cough has a terpene profile that’s all about sweetness. Expect a soft and sweet strawberry flavor and aroma, with lots of fruitiness alongside hints of pepper and spices. The first thing that you'll taste is fresh strawberries. When exhaling, the sensation becomes sweeter with a subtle touch of spice. The smoke produced by this plant is fragrant and dense, often causing coughing, which is where the strain initially got its name from.

Grow Tips

Despite being Sativa-dominant, Strawberry Cough plants grow short and bushy, with strong and sturdy branches and stems. The flowering time for Strawberry Cough is 9 weeks when grown indoors, which is about average for cannabis plants.

This strain of marijuana gets covered with Indica-type buds that are big, long, and dense, resembling an inverted cone. This pot is quite resistant to most common pests and molds and does not need a hefty fertilizing schedule, so it’s a good choice for beginners. Other grow info and tips to remember:

  • The plant prefers warm, sunny, tropical climates outdoors, but does well in greenhouses or indoors too.
  • It doesn’t like strong nutrients – recommended doses are up to 1EC in vegetation and 1.3EC during flowering.
  • Due to its bushy stature, it’s well suited for SCRoG.

Strawberry Cough Feminized Seeds: Frequently Asked Questions

Are you fascinated by this incredible strain but still have some unanswered questions? Take a look at this section to have your doubts resolved!

Is Strawberry Cough Easy to Grow?

Those who have a preference for Sativa strains are aware that these plants with longer flowering periods may require more attention compared to Indica strains that finish quickly. Along with the extended growth cycle, certain Sativa strains may be more delicate in terms of nutrient sensitivity, which can make them a bit more challenging for novice growers. Nonetheless, experienced growers understand that the genetic qualities of these plants are well worth the additional effort and time for blooming. It should be noted that Strawberry Cough is not a good strain for cultivation outdoors in colder climates, as it can take approximately 9–10 weeks to harvest and is susceptible to mold and fungus during extended periods of unfavorable weather. While it should be feasible to grow this strain in a Mediterranean climate, for optimal results, we recommend indoor cultivation.

Where Did Strawberry Cough Come From?

The precise origin of this variety is unknown. Nonetheless, it is generally believed that Strawberry Cough is a hybrid strain with Sativa dominance that was created by breeding the powerful Haze and Strawberry Fields – an Indica strain with a frosty appearance that originated in northern New York and was cultivated alongside actual strawberry fields in order to disguise its smell.

Is Strawberry Cough an Indica or Sativa?

Strawberry Cough is a hybrid Sativa-dominant strain that was developed by Kyle Kushman and awarded the title of Best Flower in the 2013 Cannabis Cup. This variety was produced by combining Strawberry Fields with an unidentified Haze strain. With its composition consisting of 80% Sativa and 20% Indica genetics, Strawberry Cough exhibits substantial THC levels typically ranging from 20% to 25%.

What Type of High Does Strawberry Cough Give?

Strawberry Cough is a strain that combines Sativa and Indica traits, resulting in a high that is mentally stimulating and euphoric without being overwhelming. While your mind remains highly focused and filled with creative energy, your body will experience relaxation and the chance to unwind. Users often describe a talkative and sociable feeling after consuming Strawberry Cough.

Does Strawberry Cough Actually Make You Cough?

Yes, you will experience the sensation of expelling strawberries from your throat. Although some discomfort is unavoidable, it is swiftly countered by a potent burst of satisfaction. This is why Strawberry Cough remains highly sought after despite its prominent adverse effect of inducing coughing.

What Are the Side Effects of Strawberry Cough?

Some users mention negative effects such as dry eyes and dry mouth, as well as the sensation of getting somewhat anxious and paranoid.

What Terpenes Are Prominent in the Strawberry Cough Strain?

In the Strawberry Cough cannabis strain, myrcene is the most prevalent terpene, recognized for its musky, fruity, and earthy scent. It is followed by pinene, which has a fresh pine fragrance, and caryophyllene, which gives it a distinct peppery taste. When combined, these terpenes create a flavor and aroma reminiscent of freshly picked strawberries, with a smoke that has fruity notes and hints of herbs.

    • Advantages
      Taste, pleasant multifaceted effect
    • Disadvantages
Won't let you relax during the entire growth, although the buds are sweeter at the end
    • General impressions

One of the tastiest strains. Not for a beginner grower, that's for sure, demanding. A bit of a challenge. Better to start with one plant, the first shoot is unlikely to be successful. And the second one is already good. The first grow was done with sodium lamps. The bushes stretched and overheated a lot. Although it's sativa-dominant, it doesn't like overheating. I changed them to LEDs and it worked for all strains. Grows well in coco, by the way. Once washed and cured, its taste is just strawberry and cheese. Earthy and sweet smell, not strawberry, more skunky. Massive buds. Yields are pretty decent, no worse than average indoor cannabis.

    • Advantages
      Beautiful sativa strawberry variety
    • Disadvantages
Unfortunately, I won't be able to go out.
    • General impressions

The girls are good, rather whimsical, but you just have to be prepared. An interesting culture at the same time, not boring, you participate and realize that the results depend entirely on you. There are phenotypes, but only if you look very closely and carefully. They generally develop at the same rate, and the effect is more or less the same. Simply a miracle after drying. I recommend it to everyone who doesn't have all the thumbs and isn't lazy to take care of their plants.

    • Advantages
Taste, for which alone, can bear the inconveniences
    • Disadvantages
The word is not difficult. Constant control and maintenance of the plant
    • General impressions

I don't even know. It seems like everything went well: taste, quantity, quality. But the growing was tiring, with constant effort and often resuscitation actions. I wasn't ready for that. But I'll try again; the taste is simply too pleasant and unique for the cannabis this strain has.

    • Advantages
      Power, effect
    • Disadvantages
"Frustrating" is not the right word.
    • General impressions

The first time, I felt like a slave to a plant. It always had this or that bothering it: incorrect pH, too much (organic) fertilizer, too little, growth arrest after basic bending, high temperatures up to 30 degrees, magnesium-calcium imbalance, etc. In general, not for beginners. Even for experienced growers, of whom I consider myself to have 3 years of successful growing experience, this experience can be exhausting. To be honest, although there were enough buds, I didn't expect them to be good. There was no strong smell mentioned in the description and constant stress. Still, an unexpected strawberry taste and an explosive high-stone blew my mind. Will I grow it again? I don't know. I'll rest from such adventures for now :)

I had two phenotypes. The first disappointed me, even though it was quite tall and resinous, the second - more indica, significantly higher yield
