Grand Daddy Purple Fast Version Strain Info

The breeders at Easy Grow Seeds did a great job decreasing the maturation time, making this already mega-popular strain even more sought-after by both impatient beginners and commercial growers. In shortening the flowering time, the strain’s creators didn’t compromise any of the qualities that have made Grand Daddy Purple such a legend – this Indica-dominant weed is as tasty and potent as ever, while its effects give new meaning to the word “euphoria.”

Genetics

To create this exceptional plant, the breeders selected an elite specimen of Purple Urkle known for its unique appearance and taste and crossed it with Big Bud, a staple in cash-crop gardens. They further enhanced the genetics with a secret hybrid to drastically improve the speed of flowering.

Flowering Time

Grand Daddy Purple Fast Version has a flowering time of 56-63 days on average. It also enters the budding stage outdoors earlier than traditional photoperiod strains, making it possible to try this variety in climates with short summers and early autumns.

Yields

Despite the shortened maturation times, Grand Daddy Purple Fast Version is a high-yielding plant that delivers 550-600 g/m2 (1.8-2 oz/ft²) indoors and a whopping 500-550 g (1.1-1.2 lb) per plant outdoors.

Effects

The blissfully deep and long-lasting body stone provided by Grand Daddy Purple Fast Version is nearly narcotic. It makes the user want to lie down and spend a small eternity in happy contemplation and meditation, which can well turn into profound sleep if you smoke too much – or if you simply partake of these buds a couple of hours before your usual bedtime.

Medical Properties

When used medicinally, Grand Daddy Purple Fast Version displays analgesic and sedative properties, simply switching off any negativity or painful sensations. When consumed moderately, it improves the appetite, while in larger doses, it serves as a potent sleep medicine.

THC and CBD Levels

Grand Daddy Purple Fast Version stands out even among traditional photoperiod varieties with its THC levels of 28% in its best-grown samples. The CBD content isn’t the strain’s strongest suit, as this medicinal cannabinoid tests at 2% or lower.

Smell and Taste

The plants emit a sweet, slightly sharp scent reminiscent of berries, which intensifies as the strain approaches harvest. Mature buds carry juicy berry notes with a hint of citrus, attributed to the terpenes limonene, valencene, myrcene, and pinene. Post-cure, the aroma transitions into a delightfully sweet smoke, leaving behind an aftertaste of grape and ripe fruit.

Grow Tips

Expect sturdy plants with broad, dark green leaves and short internodes, densely covered with flowers. While typically reaching heights of around 120 cm (4 feet), the plants can be trained for an even more compact shape using various high- or low-stress training techniques or a combination of the two.

  • The branches may require support to withstand the weight of large colas.
  • Ensure light penetration through selective pruning and defoliation.
  • Decrease night temperatures to enhance the plant’s purple colors.

Let's be honest: When a new "purple strain" hits the market, I roll my eyes until I see my brain. But GDP Fast? Perfect. I admit it. This one is different. What I expected: Another overhyped strain, with middling potency and the terpene profile of a grape Jolly Rancher left in a hot car. What I got: Day 42: Plants started turning colors like a Pantene commercial. Day 55: My dryer smelled like someone murdered a grape leprechaun (in a good way). Day 60: I smoked a joint and forgot I was crazy about capitalism for three hours. Is it revolutionary? No. Does it deliver exactly what it promises, without any lies? Surprisingly, yes. Perfect. Take my money, Herbies.

I had a bit of a rocky start with this one: two out of five seeds failed to germinate, which was frustrating. However, after contacting Herbies customer service, they quickly resolved the issue and sent replacement seeds without issue. Once the remaining seeds germinated, growth was smooth and uneventful. The plants remained compact, perfect for my small grow space, and quickly flowered, doing the Fast Version proud. The buds grew dense, frosty, and bursting with that classic GDP grape-kush aroma, with a hint of berry sweetness. The effect is exactly what you'd expect from a Grand Daddy Purple descendant: deeply relaxing, slightly sedating, perfect for unwinding after a long day. The flavor is smooth, with sweet grape notes and earthy undertones. The yield was decent, around 100g per plant, which is fine for me considering its small size. I'm only taking off one star for the germination issue, but the end result was well worth it. If you're a GDP fan and want a faster harvest, this is a great choice; just grab an extra seed or two just in case. Thanks again to Herbies for their help!
