There’s a wide variety of opinions when it comes to whether someone should combine alcohol with cannabis consumption. Many have experienced what’s known as “being crossfaded”, or being both drunk and high, with varying effects. However, some seem to point toward alcohol being beneficial to and even enhancing your cannabis experience. If you’re interested, here’s how you can learn how to properly and safely consume alcohol and cannabis together.

Why Even Combine Cannabis And Alcohol?

Combining alcohol and cannabis can result in some interesting side-effects – the question is, why? Well, it’s been shown that properties in alcohol somehow increase the concentration of THC in the blood, implying that alcohol can enhance the psychoactive effects of marijuana. This is why many cannabis enthusiasts try their hand at making cannabis-infused alcohol: to find a new way to enhance the stoner experience.

How To Make Cannabis-Infused Vodka

You can combine cannabis with virtually any type of alcoholic beverage, but the most versatile and simple of alcohols would be vodka. There are several ways you can make weed-infused vodka. Here, we’ll be focusing on two of the simplest methods that anyone can try out at home: with vodka directly and with cannabis-infused honey.

Infuse Vodka With Cannabis Honey

First, let’s discuss how to make cannabis-infused vodka by combining it with pot honey. This method is actually the more complicated of the two, but only because it requires a few more materials.

Ingredients & Hardware For Cannabis-Infused Honey Vodka

First, let’s lay out what you need:

  • A mason jar
  • A saucepan for a water bath
  • A blender
  • A cheesecloth

As well as:

  • 2 grams of decarbed cannabis
  • 150g (½ cup) of honey
  • 52.25g (¼ cup) of coconut oil
  • 500ml of vodka

Step-By-Step Instructions For Honey-Cannabis Vodka

Step One: You will first need to make your cannabis honey. To do this, grind up your decarboxylated cannabis to a coarse consistency and place in the mason jar with the coconut oil. Your cannabis must be decarboxylated for any psychoactive effects to take place.

Step Two: Place the sealed mason jar in a warm water bath on low heat for about 2 hours. This ensures all the cannabis is extracted by the fats in the oil from the flower.

Step Three: After the 2 hours, take your cheesecloth and strain the oil through the cloth to remove any bits of cannabis. Gently squeeze the cheesecloth to make sure all the oil has been drained out.

Step Four: Combine the cannabis-infused oil with the honey.

Step Five: In a blender, combine the cannabis-infused honey mixture with the 500ml of vodka.

Step Six: Blend lightly until thoroughly combined. Pour the weed-infused vodka into a bottle and let it cool completely before sealing or serving.

Infuse Vodka Directly With Cannabis

This second method of making cannabis vodka is much more straightforward. All you’ll be doing here is infusing cannabis directly with vodka for no more than a couple of hours.

Necessary Equipment For Cannabis-Infused Vodka

First, make sure you have everything necessary to complete the steps:

  • A double boiler
  • A cheesecloth
  • A thermometer

You will also need:

  • 1-3 grams of decarboxylated cannabis
  • 250ml of vodka

Step-By-Step Instructions For Cannabis-Infused Vodka

Step One: Grind your cannabis into a medium-consistency grain and wrap it in the cheesecloth. It’s important to make sure your cannabis has been decarboxylated or your vodka infusion will not have any psychoactive effects, but rather will be simply a marijuana-flavored vodka.

Step Two: Once your cannabis has been wrapped in a cheesecloth, set up your double boiler. Place this on low heat.

Step Three: Pour the 250ml of vodka into the double boiler and place the cheesecloth package inside. Let the cannabis sit and infuse with the vodka for 2-3 hours. The temperature of the vodka should not exceed 60°C (140°F), otherwise the alcohol will begin to burn off.

Step Four: Once your cannabis infusion has simmered for the necessary amount of time, remove the cheesecloth package and pour the mixture into a glass container. Let the cannabis-infused vodka sit until completely cooled before sealing, then store it in a dark place.

Safe Consumption Is Key

When combining alcohol and cannabis, it’s extremely important to start with small doses and truly know your limits. Alcohol enhances the feelings of being high, and in combination with being intoxicated, it can be a very intense experience. Side-effects may include dizziness, nausea and vomiting; you’re also advised not to operate heavy machinery, as combining the two drugs will heavily impair your motor skills. It’s recommended to not consume more than one cannabis-infused alcoholic beverage in one evening.

Enjoy Your Cannabis-Infused Vodka Responsibly

Now that you know how to make your own cannabis-infused vodka at home, it’s important to enjoy your drink responsibly. Alcohol has many known negative side-effects, so it’s essential to not consume too much, especially when it contains THC as well. Even so, combining alcohol and cannabis is a fun and interesting experience when enjoyed correctly, so drink responsibly and enjoy!
